Hybrid Bonding Protocol

1

Step 1: Try-In & Fit Check
  • Seat the veneer on the tooth to confirm fit, margins, contacts, and interferences

  • Use a try-in paste or glycerin, inspect under magnification.

  • Adjust as needed

2

Step 2: Clean & Decontaminate the Restoration Intaglio

Rinse if any try-in fluid; if contaminated with saliva, use Ivoclean to treat restoration

3

Step 3: Surface Treatment of the Veneer Intaglio
  • Air-abrasion (sandblasting) with Al₂O₃ particles (≈ 50 µm) at ~1 bar (or manufacturer’s recommended) on the intaglio surface

  • Rinse and dry

  • Apply universal adhesive to the restoration

  • Apply a thin, even layer of light cure resin cement ( Variolink veneer, Relyx veneer or NX3 Veneer) to the intaglio of the veneer and cover until ready to seat

4

Step 4: Tooth Surface Preparation

Depending on your adhesive strategy:

  • Etch & rinse: 37 % phosphoric acid (Enamel ~30 s, Dentin ~15 s)

  • Selective etch: etch enamel only, leaving dentin unetched or lightly pretreated

  • Self-etch: if your universal adhesive supports it

After doing one of the above, scrub (Adhese Universal or Optibond Universal 360) adhesive on the tooth surface for ~20 s, air thin, then light cure.

5

Step 5: Cement Application/Seating
  • Seat the veneer in place under gentle pressure

  • Remove excess resin cement with a brush

  • Tack cure (1–2 s) to stabilize

  • Carefully floss between teeth

  • Apply glycerin / oxygen-blocking gel around margins (oxygen inhibition barrier) [Optional]

  • Final light cure

6

Step 6: Final Cure, Margin Finishing & Polish
  • After light curing, check seating, margins, and occlusion.

  • Clean any residual cement and floss teeth.

  • Polish margins to a high finish.

7

Step 7: Follow-Up & Evaluation
  • At recall, check marginal integrity, bite, and polish.

  • Work together with the patient to sculpt and shape as needed for ideal esthetics

  • Take final photos
